Child Abuse Prevention Month has Arrived

Posted by: Pamela Heisler Tags: There is no tags | Categories: News

April is Child Abuse Prevention Month and we are proud to partner with PCA Chapters across the country to promote safe kids through the Pinwheels for Prevention campaign. You may be seeing our signature blue and silver pinwheels pop up all over the state- in display cases, at front desks, and in gardens large and small. The symbol of the pinwheel represents the safe and happy childhoods all kids deserve and are a reminder that we all have a role in creating #GreatChildhoods. There are activities all month long- see our calendar to learn more.

For real-time updates from events across the state, find us on Facebook.

PCAO March Newsletter- Pinwheels, Resiliency, and Policy Update

Our March Newsletter is here!

“The past four months have flown by here at Prevent Child Abuse Oregon. I’ve been so grateful for the welcome and support of our volunteers, Board of Directors, donors, and partners. Many of you have shared with me your vision for prevention in the state- a unified field that is so comprehensive that all children grow up safe. Many have also shared your frustrations -being asked to do more and more with less while the challenges our families and communities face are increasingly complex. I’ve also heard so much hope as the Governor’s Budget was released with a focus on early childhood and the legislature kicked off with a laundry list of policy and funding issues to debate that will impact families.” READ MORE.

Pinwheels for Prevention Early Bird Special- Ends Noon 2/22

Posted by: Pamela Heisler Tags: There is no tags | Categories: Uncategorized

Prevent Child Abuse Oregon is proud to announce the launch of our 2019 Pinwheels for Prevention Campaign. We have big goals this year and to kick us off, we’re having an Early Bird Special!

Pinwheels for Half the Price

Pinwheels for Prevention® is a nationwide public awareness campaign first launched by Prevent Child Abuse America in 2008. The campaign features a blue pinwheel to represent the healthy and carefree childhoods we believe every child deserves. Since the campaign began, nearly 900,000 pinwheels have been displayed nationwide.

This year our goal is to turn the state blue and silver. We want businesses, schools, libraries, churches and parks to celebrate the great work happening across our state to strengthen families. We also want to encourage each person to recognize that small actions, every day, that can help us create great childhoods for every child.

Our Goals:

  • 20,000 Pinwheels
  • A Pinwheel Garden in Every County
  • 150 P4P Champions

To help us reach this goal, we’re having an early bird special from now until noon on February 22nd. For orders of pinwheel cases (240) we’re offering half price- 50 cents per pinwheel! If you need to order a different amount, we’re offering them for 75 cents each to account for repackaging and shipping.

We hope you will join our campaign and help spread the word so that we can send a strong message this April, that Oregon is a place that cherishes and celebrates its children and families.

To join the campaign and order pinwheels, visit our Pinwheels for Prevention Campaign page.

Why Primary Prevention?

We all love the idea of child abuse prevention, but sometimes it can be hard to fully grasp what it is, or how to do it. If you want a better understanding of prevention, watch the first 8 minute of this video featuring Jerry Milner, Associate Commissioner of the Children’s Bureau.

This video from the Capacity Building Center for Courts featuring Jerry Milner, Associate Commissioner of the Children’s Bureau, discussing the importance of proactively preventing child maltreatment and investing in the capacity of parents to keep their children safe rather than disproportionately investing in supports and services, such as foster care, after children have already suffered maltreatment.
