Play is Prevention: Child Abuse Prevention (CAP) Collaborative Roadtrip!

Prevent Child Abuse Oregon (PCAO) met up with CAP Collab members from the Sexual Assault Task Force (SATF) for a meaningful daytrip full of connection, reflection and envisioning our shared work through the lens of prevention. 

We visited three powerful locations:

Chachalu Museum: A cultural center of the Confederated Tribes of Grand Ronde. We had the honor of experiencing “My Ancestors Are Here,” a stunning photographic meditation by Leland Butler, the 2024 Indigenous Place Keeping Artist Fellow. His work highlights sacred sites including Fort Yamhill, Mary’s Peak, Spirit Mountain, Table Rock, and Willamette Falls. This visit was so powerful in grounding us in the knowledge that healing and prevention are rooted in honoring history, place, and identity.

Schooner Creek Discovery Park: The first inclusive and accessible public playground on the Oregon Coast! Designed to reflect the natural beauty of Siletz Bay, this park is a testament to breaking down physical and social barriers to create a space where all children and families can play, connect, and thrive, regardless of ability.

Lincoln City Beach: A space for reflection, reminding us that nature itself is a protective factor offering calm, resilience, and restoration.

These places represent more than a day trip, they reflect the kind of community-centered, inclusive, and healing spaces that help children and families thrive.
